Will All Liquids Mix Together?

    Things You Will Need
    • 2 - 6 glasses
    • Food coloring
    • Cooking oil
    • Vinegar
    • Liquid detergent
    • Water
    • Measuring cup

    Do This

    1. Put 1/2 cup of water into a glass.
    2. Add 2 to 4 drops of food coloring to the water and stir.
    3. Observe what happens.
    4. Put 1/2 cup of water into another glass.
    5. Put 1/4 cup of cooking oil into the glass of water and stir.
    6. Observe what happens.

    What Should Have Happened

      All liquids are not the same! Some will mix with others and some will not. Some are lighter or heavier than others. Some will mix with water and some will not mix with water. Oil will not mix with water. It should have separated out if you left it alone for a while. Liquid soap will break down the oil.
